- Hi, my name is Jesse Hoskins,
I have become a paraplegic after having back surgery performed to treat sciatica. I went out on what I thought was short term disability on December 16,2019. After being released from the hospital and experiencing a trend of increasing instead of decreasing pain. My wife took me to the emergency room on February 2,2020 when the pain got so bad that I couldn’t walk. After running some tests and a CT scan, it was discovered that 3 screws had backed out from the lumbar fusion and there was a fracture in my spine. So, on February 10th, I had to undergo another back surgery. Now, instead of an incision site that was about 6 inches long on my lower back that required 6 staples; I now have an incision site that covers my entire back to just beneath my shoulder blades that required over 50 staples to close. I stayed in the hospital until Saturday, February 15th and immediately transferred to the rehab wing of a local hospital. I started experiencing severe back pain while there and it was discovered that I now had a spinal infection. One of the options was a third surgery to clean out the infection, but it was decided that the infection could be treated with antibiotics delivered via IV every 8 hours until April 8.2020 which was done at home. I was released from rehab on March 2nd. I am also taking Zoloft for slight depression. I was rehabbing ok until Labor Day morning 2020. On that day, I got out of bed and fell to the floor. I haven't been able to walk since. From October 2020 until January 2021, was treated by Navicent Health in Macon, Georgia. From January 28, 2021 until March 29, 2021, I was under the care of personnel at the Shepherd Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta, Georgia. . It was here that found out that my paralysis was caused by a bacteria infection from doctors at the Shepherd Center. I am now completely paralyzed from my navel down. I can no longer accomplish was I considered to be simple tasks and no must pay someone to so them. I am like doing things such as repairing appliances to changing drive axles and rotors on cars. Between these new expenses and new expenses that I have for medical supplies, I can't keep up with living expenses. I'm now on a fixed income and my wife can't work because she has to care for me.
