Financial Help for Domestic Violence Victim
Donation protected
Let me start by saying that this is REALLY hard for me to do - both to share my story AND to ask for help... but here it goes...
I'm in desperate need of financial help to assist in paying for my attorney who is seeking justice for me in my domestic violence case against my ex-boyfriend. I've been the silent victim of repeated abuse for close to a year. This man is the father of my children and I am afraid for them even more than I'm afraid for myself. I'm seeking a permanent restraining order against him, but in the time of Covid it is VERY hard to get assistance/advocates. I've reached out to multiple agencies and lawyers to ask for pro bono help with my case, but I haven't been able to secure any free or low cost help. I had to retain a lawyer who is helping me with the restraining order as well as my custody case for my children's safety. My legal bills are quickly adding up, my credit cards are maxed out, my normal household bills are adding up quickly and currently my only income is from disability. At this point, my household bills are either only partially paid or not paid at all and its all I can do to keep food on the table for my girls. My main concern however is that my family's safety will only be secured if I'm able to secure this restraining order. Unfortunately, my lawyer can only work with me so much before he started requiring payments once my retainer was used up. I fully understand that no one can work for free, and my case is complicated because my 2 young daughters are a part of it. Even still, with a temporary restraining order in place, my ex continues to harass and emotionally/verbally abuse me via emails and texts (which is documented with the police and will be used in court). He is also constantly contacting my lawyer for no better reason than to be a nuisance and knowingly run up my attorney's fees in the hope that I will "come to my senses and just drop this already". I can't give up and I won't stop fighting for the emotional as well as physical safety for my girls and I.
I just want this horrible chapter of my life over and to move on past this nightmare. I finally stood up for myself saying enough is enough. The man shoved me and has thrown me to the ground while I was holding our baby. He has screamed profanity at me, shoved me into walls and thrown me to the ground all in front of both of the children. I want better for myself but more importantly I want better for my daughters. They deserve better and I'm doing everything I possibly can to continue to fight for our safety. Anything you can give to help me and my family will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading my story.
