Hello family, friends, and other lovers of the arts,
My name is Jon Ole Olstad. I am a 31 year old dancer and choreographer originally from Norway. For the last 4 years, I have been living and working out of New York City. My love for dance sparked when I began dancing at the age of 16. My love for choreography started when I began dancing with Nederlands Dans Theater 1 and experienced the excitement of a creative process. When working at NDT1, I had an opportunity to create a solo that was invited to perform at the Solo Tanz Stuttgart International Festival in 2015. Through this experience, I realized the importance of a choreographic platform where my work could be recognized and believed in.
I have now been fortunate enough to be selected for the 33. International Competition for Choreographers on June 21st and 22nd in Hannover, Germany with the solo, "Finally, it's everything," performed by American dancer, Leslie Plummer.
The following statement is made by the organizers of this event:
"Testament to the importance of this event in the International dance-scene is not only the renowned jury, but also the fact, that every year approximately 300 choreographers from more than 50 nations apply. It is the goal of this International contest to provide a platform for young choreography talents to flourish. There are many dance competitions around, but only very few worldwide platforms, where new choreography talent is given an opportunity, to be noticed. The competition enables young choreographers to present themselves to a renowned expert jury and to experience the advantages of professional stage technology. It also provides them with the opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues and the audience."
Another work of mine has also been selected for a major Dance Festival happening this summer in NYC. The organizers ask us not to announce it until they have. I will update this when the announcement has occurred.
Your generous support will help cover much needed dancers' salary, travel expenses to Europe, studio rental fee, and costuming. Your support means that unique and gifted dancers will have opportunities to perform meaningful work that can inspire and reach a greater audience, and for me to further my career as a choreographer.
