With the recent severe budget cuts, the Philadelphia School District does not provide funds for its robotics teams. This team is the only opportunity for Masterman students to develop modern programming and engineering skills. We rely 100% on team fundraisers and community sponsors. Each year we host a variety of events to raise much needed funds to acquire tools, materials, machines, and pay competition fees. This year, we are fundraising to acquire a CNC router which will help us manufacture parts in-house, prototype more efficiently, and produce parts of higher qualities and thus field more competitive robots . To date we have raised $1000 from our team hosted movie night and another $500 from our bake sales.
Being a part of FIRST robotics has inspired many of us to pursue engineering and the applied sciences. The hands on experience we gain from building robots and working with industry mentors is invaluable and we want to continue to grow our team and cultivate a love for engineering in even more students. To that end, we need to improve our machine shop capabilities.
We need an additional $3500 to purchase a CNC router. We hope that you will be as excited as we are about this season's ultimate game, "RECYCLE RUSH!!!"
