Help Atlas-A Rescue Needs Support.

Any animal I take stays until God calls upon them, I would never want to see them in the wrong hands, we are their lifetime and they deserve the best life!! Recently as I was scrolling FB seeing all the rescue groups trying to save herds of horses, donkeys, mules from being shipped to slaughter. It's heartbreaking to say the least. These animals served their owners their whole lives, just get dumped to slaughter, it's horrible!!! In my scrolls, I come across this picture of a horse, looking so scared, he just called out to me. I clicked his link and watched his video, my heart melted....he was due to ship to slaughter in 9 days and he is 1200 miles away!!!! What do I do? I contacted a few recsues to swe if they could help with transport and no success. So, I sat and thought how can I afford his bail, shipping, vaccines? It's Christmas time, taxes will be due soon, how can I do this, I can't let him ship!!! I prayed and prayed...on Dec 24 I had the day off my husband worked 1/2 day, when he came home, I was on my phone trying to figure out how to get this horse saved. He asked what I was doing, I said Praying for a miracle for this horse. With tears in my eyes I turned my head, grabbed my blanket to take a nap and pray. When I woke up I checked my phone to look at the horse that has been calling out to me. WHAT?? His bail fee was cut half!!! My miracle!!! God is good!! I immediately called them to find out shipping costs. An elderly lady answered the phone, I explained why I was calling...she said she was sorry, she answered the phone by mistake all the staff has left for the holidays and would be back on the 30th!! But he is supposed to ship that day!! Please I just want transport info! She kindly gave me a number to a horse hauler. I called him and his price was reasonable, and he would be this way on Jan 3rd....I bought him!!! I had to painstakingly wait until the 30th to speak with anyone at the pen, when I finally did I paid board until the 3rd, they gave me no other info on the horse and so I waited until the transport. Jan 2... I get a text with video...they are picking up my horse...to my shock...his left eye is swollen!!!! I asked what happened, they said they didn't know, no one said anything to them about it and they would look at it closer when they got him to their place. Later that day I get another video, they think he bumped it somehow or another and treated with antibiotics and banamine. While he was there he was comfortable.

Jan 4, 8:30pm...he arrives!!! Atlas!! His name is Atlas, not only because he has traveled all over, but because The name Atlas, which means "enduring" or "to endure," of Greek origin.

Earlier that day I scheduled an appt with our vet and I couldn't get him in until Jan 6. When we finally get there, his eye is swollen, dripping goop and his eyeball is hazy. part of is lower eyelid is missing and he had a sac of some sort behind the lower eyelid. We decided in hopes that this all happened so fast, we are going to try to save his eye vs. removing it. Scheduled an appt for the ophthalmologist to come and run a port to his eye so we can inject antibiotics directly to it. We are presently doing 3 different ointment medications directly to his eye and giving banamine. Atlas, has been an absolute Gem!! He is sweet, smart, patient and will do whatever we ask...except allow us to get the ointment in his eye. When I committed to getting Atlas, I knew there were going to be expenses, as we have other horses so I know, but this was totally not expected and at the worst time. We will do everything we can for Atlas, he called out to me for a reason. We are not ones to ever ask for financial help....ever!! But I lower my head suck up my pride, because I need this guy to be happy for the rest of his life, if that means vet bills, it means vet bills....I will not fail him where others have. He is my gentle giant with a heart of gold and a will to survive!! I will help him with that and we hope you will too!!
