I'm a 61 year old endurance athlete undertaking sporting events that challenge me to the extremes of physical and mental capacity whilst raising money for charity.
My next challenge is to row the Atlantic Ocean solo in December 2020.
I will be rowing across the Atlantic Ocean from La Gomera in the Canary Isles to Antigua. It’s a 3000 mile journey considered one of the most gruelling physical challenges that will see me endure the extremes of ocean weather, whilst testing my mental tenacity.
Out on the Ocean I will be on my own and be completely self-sufficient as I single handedly propel my 24ft ocean rowing boat towards Antigua. There will be no outside assistance as I face a constant battle of fatigue, blisters, salt sores, sleep deprivation that the row will inflict from two-hour shifts around the clock for weeks, all the while facing the raw and unforgiving elements the Atlantic Ocean.
Why do I undertake these challenges?
Unfulfilled potential.
I experienced severe mental health issues as a young adult well into my late 20’s making it all but impossible to hold down jobs, maintain relationships or function on a daily basis.
It was a real battle to turn the situation around but now I have I’m making up for lost time and fulfilling the potential that I probably had but was unable to realise.
For this challenge I'll be raising money for Horseheard a mental health charity which use horse as part of it's therapy.
