Athena is Battling Cancer – Please help her with the fight
Donation protected
It is with a heavy heart that we write to you. Athena Kahler-Breeden, was recently diagnosed with Stage Four Cancer. It’s hard to put into words how quickly her world has changed; three weeks ago, Athena walked into a hospital for sciatica pain and discovered she has a rare and aggressive cancer called Extraosseous Ewing Sarcoma -- she has been hospitalized ever since and is currently at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. Today Athena started Palliative Chemotherapy. While this means her cancer is no longer curable, it does not mean she is giving up. She is fighting to find options to manage her cancer, live a longer life with her loved ones and be able to watch her sons grow into men.
Athena is vibrant, adventurous and full of life – when she isn’t working as a nurse in the E.R., you can find her volunteering for her son’s boy scout campouts, planning family adventures or brightening a friend's day with a funny (and often loud) story. She is an incredible mother to her two young boys (Jaxston age 12; Kolton age 10), a loving and loyal wife (husband Kalon), sister, daughter and friend.
Cancer treatment is not just emotionally draining, it is financially overwhelming. Her treatment plan requires months of hospitalization and a year or more of chemotherapy and radiation. As the sole provider for her family, this cancer represents a devastating loss to their means of stability. The costs of ongoing care, medications, and supporting her family during this time are more than she can manage alone. We’re reaching out to our community and starting this GoFundMe to help.
If you are able, we humbly ask for your support on behalf of Athena. Every dollar donated will make a difference in Athena’s fight against cancer. Your support can help Athena focus on her health, rather than worrying about finances. Even a small contribution can make a world of difference.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and unwavering support. Please share this GoFundMe with your network, and let's work together to help Athena get through this challenging time.
With heartfelt gratitude,
