Atharva Chinchwadkar Memorial
Donation protected
On the evening of Sunday, February 21, our beloved Atharva, 19 years old, went out for a casual drive. Around 7 PM he texted his mom that he was on his way home, but he never returned. Throughout the following week, hundreds of people across the Bay Area went on personal search missions, but all to no avail. Unfortunately, on February 27, it was confirmed that Atharva had tragically passed away in a car accident. A bicyclist reported skid marks on Calaveras Road and Atharva’s car was found at the bottom of a 100+ foot deep ravine. His parents, Yashashree and Sachin, and his younger brother, Ameya, have been beyond heartbroken since.
Atharva was a charismatic young man who was studying at UC Santa Cruz with dreams of becoming a doctor. He was born and raised in Fremont, California, and despite only being 19 years old, he had a tremendous impact on his community and was loved by all the people around him. Atharva was a true athlete at heart. He had a black belt in karate and was a key contributor to the American High School Varsity Volleyball team. Most importantly, he had a special passion for running. His mom shared his love for volleyball and running, and through that they developed a special bond. He was a great son and brother, and overall just a kind, upstanding person.
While there is nothing we can do to bring Atharva back, we can certainly take efforts to ensure his legacy lives on. To do so, we are launching this campaign with a goal of raising $50,000, which will be used for the following:
1. First, to honor Atharva’s love for sports, a majority of the proceeds will go to the American High School Athletics Department. Using our donation, American High School has agreed to build an athletic conditioning room in loving memory of Atharva.
2. If possible, we would like to establish safety measures on Calaveras Road at the crash site. Calaveras Road is a common drive for high school and college-aged youth, and we want to ensure that this kind of tragedy is never repeated. If you believe you can help us in this effort, please do reach out to us.
3. Otherwise, all remaining proceeds will be distributed to community service projects that will honor Atharva’s passion for athletics.
The community support following this unimaginable tragedy has been overwhelming, and we thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all the help we have been receiving. Please do keep Atharva and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
