On Saturday, April 18th, Atea, known and loved by many as Goya, experienced a moment that no one ever prepares for.

What was meant to be a quick, 15-minute stop at Club Elegance (804) turned into something unimaginable. As she was leaving, Atea and others were caught in an act of sudden, senseless violence. Gunfire erupted from across the street, and in an instant, everything changed.

Atea was struck in the back, suffering critical injuries that severely impacted her lungs and spine. This damage has left her paralyzed from the chest down.

Since that night, her world has been turned upside down.

Simple things most of us take for granted are no longer simple. Each day now comes with physical challenges, emotional weight, and an uncertain path forward. Yet through it all, Atea continues to fight with strength, with grace, and with the same love that has always defined her.

Because above everything else, she is a mother.

Her 6-year-old son is her heart, her purpose, and her reason to keep pushing forward. And right now, he needs his mom’s strength more than ever just as she needs the support of those around her.

No one plans for a moment like this. No one is ever truly prepared for the financial, physical, and emotional toll it brings. Medical care, recovery, daily needs, and the adjustments ahead are already overwhelming and continue to grow.
