Invest in Women. Invest in Art.
The last few years have been particularly hellish for a lot of women. From the election of a "pussy grabber," to the #metoo movement, and so much more, many of our issues have been front and center. But let's be real, these have been issues for ages for so many woman. So much so, that sometimes we interact with them as second nature. Some of these issues, like the notion of having to be aware of who we are when we inhabit space, particularly at night, has become so ingrained in our everyday that it doesn't even seem unusual anymore.
This film explores, in a kaleidoscope fashion, both the mundane and extraordinary toll this takes on the lives of the female bodied, through the journey of Mickey & Olivia, two women who unexpectedly fall in love and get attacked after their first kiss. This event also forces them both to confront their own fears, in a world that continues to fear difference.
We are currently in the pre-production and fundraising phases and plan to raise $10k for the film. My producer and I are working tirelessly to assemble a diverse and fully self-identified female crew, and I want to make sure everyone gets paid SOMETHING. We are also very fortunate to have secured Favienne Howsepian as our Director of Photographer!
Most of us are aware that women traditionally and ritualistically get paid less than men. In film, this is even more of an issue. Also, traditionally, most of the roles are filled by men. We want to shake that up to create a space for women to participate freely in a creative process.
We are set to film in late January and have begun pre-production. Part of this prep includes raising money to be able to pay the VERY talented humans we need on set to make this happen, this will include:
A cinematographer
A first Assistant Camera
A best human (traditionally called “best boy” on set)
A sound recordist (dialogue and scene sounds)
A composer (overarching music)
A script supervisor (keeps track of continuity and scene log to make sure we don’t waste any precious time)
A set designer
5 actors
2-3 grips
2-3 PA’s
2 gaffers
We are also working on getting locations (apartment indoor, apartment outdoor, outside of a bar, and a hospital room,) any props or art, as well as food for the crew donated. If you or anyone you know might be interested in feeding the crew for a day, or even for just one meal (they will likely be working 10-12 hour days for portions of this), please let me know!
We will also be recording the whole process in order to create a short behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of the film! We value and appreciate anything you are willing to contribute and we will stretch every dollar to create the most we possibly can. You will also be listed in the credits and receive a special thank you from our cast and crew.
If you are interested in a bigger role, or being a corporate sponsor, or an Executive Producer, please contact me directly at [email redacted]!
