Shane was diagnosed with renal failure in 2016 and in Sept 1, 2017 was laid off from his job. On Sept 13 Shane's toe got infected and he had to have his leg amputated just below the knee. They then found he had MRSA. Shane went to rehab and 2 of his fingers died.. They found out Shane had caliciphylaxis. Kidney failure and high phosphorus was causing his didgits to calcify. Without treatment this would be fatal. He was put on medication with no guarantees. Shane was working hard in rehab and Shane was doing better and then he fell and opened the sutures. Shane ended up back at the hospital and the found more MRSA. Shane was started on antibiotics and he was doing better again. Shane had one more rehab goal to complete before going home and that was to be able to get up and down stairs. On Sept 2 Shane was admitted to the hospital with weight loss , fever and chills. They found that Shane was septic. More tests showed that a ball of bacteria was in his heart valve and blockage. Antibiotic were helping in all parts of his body the MRSA in his heart was getting worse. On Jan 12 Shane had open heart surgery that lasted 14 hours. He had 2 additional surgeries in the last 48 hours. Shane is stable now but a long road ahead. He will have more surgeries, rehab and antibiotics. Shane and his wife Vicki have 6 kids. Shane was the person who provided financial for the family while Vicki stayed home to care for the kids. The Vossen Family Needs your help now more than ever. Would you consider donating.
