Hi, my name is Brittany. At 9 years old, I was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes and immediately admitted to intensive care to begin insulin injections. l am 26 years old now & Juvenile Diabetes has changed not just my life, but taken its toll on my body. At 24, I lost my vision. Legally blind, I had to leave my job at Harley Davidson & stop my undergraduate studies my junior year. A year & a half ago, I had to start dialysis and now need a kidney & pancreas transplant because of my very aggressive form of Diabetes. As of August 31, 2015, I was placed on the kidney/pancreas transplant list at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville. My status on the list is "inactive" until I have raised $7,800, the amount determined by the transplant committee/team at Mayo. These funds will ensure the transplant will be successful from the start. This money will pay for co-pays for anti-rejection medication, living in Jacksonville, specifically 10 minutes from the hospital, for 30 days post transplant. I live 1 hour & 45 minutes away from Mayo so my mother & I will have to stay in Jacksonville for the month or more if necessary. Once my fundraised goal set by the Mayo Clinic comittee/team is reached, only then will my status change to "active" & the next kidney & pancreas tranplant match will be available to me. Please feel free to email me to ask any questions.
