AT Chapa's COVID Recovery Support

Donation protected

First and foremost, thank you for the continued prayers (there's power in prayers & numbers) and for reaching out to the Chapa family, offering to help in anyway possible. It is very much appreciated.

On Sunday, 15 August, AT Chapa was out of town with his family when he began to feel ill. What could have easily been mistaken for a common cold turned out to be much more serious. Initial symptoms were minor: allergies started acting up, headache, dizziness, light headed (typical for this time of year). Then the more serious symptoms started to appear: fatigue, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, fever and chills. All of these symptoms in conjunction with severe asthma creates a dangerous combination.

While AT Chapa was able to rest at home, for a little over a week, with the support of his wife (Jennifer) and three daughters (Mia, Mya & Mariah) his health began rapidly declining. Unfortunately, on 24 August, it was easy to recognize that medical attention was needed. 911 Emergency was called and first responders arrived to transport AT Chapa, via ambulance to Methodist Richardson Hospital.

Once AT Chapa arrived at the hospital, they started him on IVs and monitors. They ran multiple test, which include but not limited to, X-Rays and CT scans. They re-tested and confirmed positive Covid results, then diagnosed him with pneumonia and dehydration. With the severity of his illness, they decided to admit him to a room, on the COVID floor. Must say, the medical team was so nice and they were genuinely concerned for AT Chapa's well-being. So, thanks to the medical team at Methodist Richardson Hospital for their superb bedside manner and for taking good care of him. Kindness is measured when you show empathy during stressful times and the staff succeeded in this category.

On Thursday, 26 August AT Chapa was released from the hospital to return home to ride out his illness. His discharge specifics included oxygen 24/7 and to maintain an oxygen level above 93%. However, if his stats were to drop below 88%, he would need to return to the hospital to discuss an alternative plan of action. Then today, via teledoc we were informed that he wasn't improving like they had hoped for. If no improvement is made in the next couple of days AT Chapa will return to the Hospital, per doctor orders.

I'm sure you all are aware of the extreme costs and out-of-pocket expenses being incurred for seeking out medical attention. AT Chapa has been out of work for two weeks now. The length of his absence is undetermined at this time. Problem is, bills don't stop stacking up when illnesses sweep in unexpectedly. The last thing AT Chapa needs to worry about is where the finances will come from to support his family.

Although this is not something the Chapa family would typically do, I've realized that with an extended recovery time, loss of wages and incoming bills this presents a financial burden on the family. Your donations will help to replenish lost wages, assist with current bills and with any medical expenses not covered by insurance. Please remember to protect yourself and your loved ones. Continued prayers are definitely needed and we appreciate any assistance you can give during this time.
