Help Astrid: Urgent Vet Care Needed

Mugs 'N Mittens Cat Café

We are a for-profit Cat Café in Fairmont, West Virginia with 8 permanent kitties and we foster cats and host events for the Marion County Humane Society. Mugs 'N Mittens used to be in a much smaller building, but thanks to crowd funding and community support, we were able to get a bigger building to be able to make drinks, host even more events including a Kitten Shower coming soon, and foster more kitties!

Astrid Blair

Astrid is the newest and youngest permanent cat at Mugs 'N Mittens. She is almost 8 months old now, and though she's been a little shy, she has slowly been acclimating to the café life. We found Azzy over 60 feet in a tree, and a tree climber was able to rescue her after three days in the tree.

After Azzy was rescued, the damage to her eye was clearly noticeable, but veterinarians deduced that she was not in any pain, and that because scar tissue formation during the healing process after an injury now has her third eyelid stuck to the top of her eye like an eye patch, her eye will always be like this. She is our very brave girl and she has been through a lot!

Astrid Isn't Feeling Good...

Astrid has been having a severe bout of bloody diarrhea and has been coming out to see us less and less after making so much progress and coming out of her shell. We took her to the emergency vet two days ago to treat her symptoms in case it was only stress, but after two days, she is still having the same symptoms, if not worsening symptoms. That visit was $245, a fraction of what we will likely have to pay for x-rays, blood work, and fecal testing.

The emergency vet told us they can't give a firm quote, but that we could likely pay up to $600-$800. Because we spent our savings on startup costs merely a month ago, and we admittedly do not have the credit to apply for Care Credit, we are reaching out once again to ask our community for help getting Astrid feeling better again.

Any money we do not end up using will be donated to the Marion County Humane Society.

We are so deeply appreciative of the kind people who donated to us for our renovation efforts. There is still so much more we would love to do with the space, and the kitties absolutely love the room and the Humane Society has big plans for more events. We are worried sick about Astrid and hope that we are able to raise money for her. Inventory may be a little tight as we focus our finances toward getting her to the vet— we appreciate your understanding.
