Why We're Raising Money...
Playa del Rey Elementary School's 2016-2017 fifth graders are eager to continue the annual 5th grade tradition of attending AstroCamp to help mark the end of their time in elementary school.
When Is The Trip...
AstroCamp will occure in March 2017; however, the first deposit (~$1800) is due in October 2016.
Why AstroCamp...
AstroCamp is an awesome opportunity for students to renew and grow their love of science and math through a variety of hands-on experiments and activities in which they explore concepts of space exploration, earth science, chemistry, physics, engineering, and math. Many of the experiments and demonstrations that students participate in during their AstroCamp experience are simply not available in traditional classroom set ups due resource limitations and campus restrictions.
For many students AstroCamp also offers their first overnight experiene away from home in a dorm-like setting where they get a preview of what's to come when they each attend college in the future.

How The Funds Will Be Used...
All funds raised will help to fund Astro Camp tuition, roundtrip transportation, and insurance (as required by the school district) for 36 - 5th grade students AND their required chaperones (including two 5th grade teachers at a reduced rate). Note: It comes to just under $300 to sponsor a single student.
Why Your Help Would Mean So Much To Us...
Until 2015, our school was classified as a school-wide Title I program school meaning that greater than 50% of our students are low-income. While our demographics have changed in recent years, our fifth grade class still has quite a number of low-income students. Our students will be participating in a variety of fundraisers over the year, but we need the help of friends, family, and community members to meet our goal.
