Goal Reached! Astoria Fire Impacts Multiple Families

Donation protected
My name is Kaitlyn and I am a previous teacher, neighbor, and friend to The Fukumoto Family who was impacted by the Easter Fire in Astoria.

On Sunday 04/20 a 3 alarm fire occurred on the corner of 31st Avenue & 23rd Street in Astoria. This tragedy took the homes of 3 families and all of their belongings.

This money will be used to help support the people impacted including The Fukumoto Family and The Yoshida Family.

I will be receiving these donations and giving them to families via check. These monies will help them secure new housing and to replace all of their life long belongings that were lost from furniture, to clothing, to school necessities, and so on.

The community support has been amazing and you can find GoFundMe Pages organized for Yoshida & Acosta Here: Help Mondello & Acosta Family Recover After Fire ($20K+ raised) and- Support the Yoshida Family After Fire Loss ($65K+)

Due to the high participation of these GoFundMe pages, the donations from my fundraiser will be allocated accordingly: 75% to Fukumoto Family and 25% to The Yoshida Family.

Please pass this story on.

This is Midori Fukumoto. I moved into 21-33 31st Avenue #Floor3 when our eldest son was celebrating his first birthday in November, and have lived there for 14 years. On the Saturday before Easter, my second son named Kotaro and I were excited about where we would go to the park the next day, when our apartment were caught fire that completely burned down our room on 3rd floor . We evacuated with pajamas and sandals, and the people in the neighborhood covering us with their warm blankets and gently placed their sneakers at our feet. We are truly grateful for the many people who donated clothes, shoes, toiletries, etc., even as the sun went down that day. We, Fukumoto family is staying in a hotel where we have evacuated, and we are grateful to be able to use the clothes, shoes, and even underwear that everyone gave us. The things we received from you all were filled with the warm feelings of each and every one of you and we cannot measure how much they have healed our family. We are filled with gratitude beyond words to Ms.Kilpatrick, Kotaro's teacher, who has supported his growth for so long. We regret that we are unable to express our gratitude to each and every one of the many people who have supported us, including the community members , people that Animal protection and rescue organizations , the teachers who took care of Kotaro , the parents of his former classmates, those associated with the school, acquaintances of the Yoshida family, and those who supported us after seeing the news. We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported Yoshida family and our families. We are truly grateful. Thank you very much. We wish you all the happiness. Best regards Midori Fukumoto
