My name is Monique Ramon. I am from the Gu-Achi District, Covered Wells community on the Tohono O’odham Nation. I am currently taking summer classes at Tohono O’odham Community College making up credits and working as an intern with TOCC Agriculture Extension Program. I will be returning to Central Arizona College for fall semester 2018 as a Sophomore studying Administration of Justice. I am writing this letter requesting for reasonable funds to help me continue my education.
My first semester at CAC was a reality check for me, coming from a place (the reservation) where everyone knows each other and all my classmates grew up together to place where no one knows me and people have goals. College consists of different age groups, races and beliefs from all over the world. Then, I realized that I wasn’t a kid anymore and what I do and can do now will affect my future.
I’ve always been enthusiastic and passionate about the programs I participated in during high school. Now that I am in college, half way done, and getting ready to start my next chapter in life. I want to be prepared. Home will always be home, but I’m working on getting some land to build a foundation of my own. There’s a lot of things I want for myself and for my family, especially for my nephew, he gives me motivation and drive to do better.
College is the time to have fun but also the time to grow up and take responsibility. Since I’ve been on my own, I have gained knowledge through the struggle and choice’s I have made. I now understand time management, money management and have a better organized schedule.
I am trying my best and I’ve come this far, only to continue and go further.
Unfortunately, I was not eligible for the nations scholarship due to missing documents containing parent signature. Where as my father has not been around and my mother is incarcerated. I’ve been independent but now, more than ever.
