Hi, my name is Jo (they/them) and I’m crowdfunding to assist my mother with rent and transportation. I originally started a Gofundme to help her move out of an abusive living situation, which she was thankfully able to do in June of this year. This is the first time that my mom has had a stable living situation in over a decade, and until recently, she was constantly threatened with the possibility of homelessness. Although I’m incredibly grateful for the support we received, the funds raised were only able to cover a security deposit and two months of rent. Rent at the new apartment is high ($1700 a month) and my mom has been working three jobs to keep up with it. On top of this, her car is very old and has a variety of issues, and it’s completely broken down on several occasions. She’s been trying to save up for a replacement, but rent and other expenses make this nearly impossible. Transportation to and from work is vital for her until we’re more financially stable, and I’m concerned that she’ll have to rely on Uber/Lyft at some point very soon. I’m hoping that raising money will help to ease this financial burden, so that she won’t have to work as much or worry about her car breaking down every day. While a lot of my time and energy is spent on being on a full-time student, I’ve been contributing what I can from my job and art commissions/grants, and I’m also trying to start a print shop so that I could sustainably support both of us in the near future. However, doing so requires a lot more time and resources than I currently have access to, and her needs are much more urgent. My mom is one of my best friends, she’s done more for me than I could ever repay her, and worked so hard to turn her life around and get to this point, so I just want to honor her by helping as much as possible.
