Assisted Home Care for Wendy

Trying to find the right words to put this message together is finding itself to be incredibly difficult. For those who know-those that don’t as well- mom was diagnosed with stage 2 bladder cancer summer of 2019.  Since her diagnosis, she has undergone chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and clinical trials to little or no avail. The cancer continues to wreak havoc on mom’s body and mind. The future, unfortunately, does not appear as bright as it did during the earlier stages of this battle with cancer. Throughout the countless doctors appointments, long car rides that turned into makeshift concerts, ER visits where mom would play runaway, medical exams, and endless pokes-IV needles-as mom said, her cancer grew. She is now terminal stage 4, and needs constant round the clock care.

She’s fortunate to have had a career that afforded her been a wonderful insurance policy. We’ve discovered however, that her insurance is not as friendly with end of life care such as a nursing aid and/or the efficient hospice care that she so desperately now needs. The costs of a 24/7 nurse can range from $3500-$5000 per month. None of which is covered by insurance. Of course she has family and probably the best friends we’ve ever seen around her, but mom needs a bit more experienced medical care at this point. We’re currently fighting to come up with funds to get Wendy an in home nurse to help with medications and day to day to life. At this time we are not exactly sure how much time mom has left with us, but she doesn’t seem to be long for this world. She doesn’t ask much these days besides comfort. That having been said, her one wish is to spend the days she does have in her own home. We’re trying our best to make that happen for mom, which is why we’ve come here on this site. Anything donated is so greatly appreciated words cannot make out the true definition of the feeling. Thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts and hers. We love you all!
