About 5 years ago, the weathered wooden deck I was on crumbled, and I found myself suddenly falling 15ft onto concrete. I suffered 5 broken vertebrae in my neck, 2 shattered wrists, 2 broken ribs, a broken foot, and an 8in laceration on my head. I was on state disability and eventually received a settlement. I tried to use that settlement to create a means to support myself through the only work I have ever done, food hospitality, so I ventured into owning a small cafe, but COVID and my new physical limitations had other plans. I was forced to close the business and apply for SSDI. Social Security has nearly 1 million pending cases currently, and I have been waiting for my disability application to complete processing for a year now. It has been stuck in stage 3 of 5 (medical evaluation) for most of that time. My savings is almost gone and I have no other means of income. I am humbly asking for any help that anyone can offer to help me cover my living expenses and ongoing medical expenses as I am forced to wait. In my savings and from my settlement, I only have money to cover 3 months more of living expenses. Please help me stretch this out as I figure out if there is another means of income I can achieve to help me keep my living situation secure as I wait for my disability to finalize.
