Hello and thank you for visiting this page, created to help the family left behind by a dear friend, father, and husband, Alan Moorehead.
Alan Moorehead was a state-certified security officer employed by Dollywood Security. On March 1st, while walking into training, Alan had a significant fall impacting his face on the concrete which broke his nose and left him with lacerations and bruising to his face and eyes. Colleagues found Alan, then rushed to the hospital where a scan to assess the damage to his face and head was performed. Unfortunately, this scan uncovered a massive tumor in Alan's brain, roughly the size of a baseball.
An emergency surgery to remove the tumor was conducted immediately. The hope was that the tumor would be benign and that no significant damage to Alan's brain would occur while performing this delicate and challenging procedure.
Alan survived the surgery and was ventilated and sedated. A neurosurgeon would routinely rouse Alan to check his brain activity. After 10 days, Alan did not appear to be regaining any activity in his brain, only able to open his eyes and stare blankly forwards. His wife, Chrystal Moorehead, remained by his side day and night, praying and whispering her love, affection, and memories into his ear just as she has done for their last 32 years of life together.
The decision was finally upon the Moorehead family to remove Alan from ventilation and pray that he would begin breathing on his own again. It was that or have him remain on the vent in hopes that it would hold off a harsh reality that seemed to be approaching quickly, Alan may not recover.
Chrystal knew that Alan would never have been happy with ventilation, to begin with. However, this was necessary while recovering from such a physically demanding surgery, but now, it was time to decide. The ventilation had reached its limit and would soon no longer be effective. Chrystal would agree to the doctor's counsel to remove the vent and hope that Alan was strong enough to recover independently. The Moorehead family together came to the difficult decision to remove the vent.
Our prayers were answered, Alan began breathing on his own. All appeared to be improving, starting with a thumbs up to the neurosurgeon. Alan continued to show signs of improvement, and at one point, Chrystal even said that Alan was mouthing along to his favorite Pink Floyd songs.
Heartbreakingly, these improvements would be short-lived. After having a significant fall, having a brain tumor removed, being ventilated and picking up pneumonia along the way - the Moorehead family were given the grim news that what was thought to be one tumor was two and that these tumors were, in fact, malignant (cancerous). And very soon after, Alan's body ultimately succumbed to the physical and mental trauma it has endured over the last few weeks.
Alan leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Chrystal Moorehead, two grandchildren (he has guardianship over and raised with his faithful wife), Angelina and Jonathan Moorehead and their family pup, Honey Moorehead.
As the sole provider for the family, with little in benefits and life insurance, the reality is that the mortgage and vehicle payments will also be left behind for the Moorehead family. Those bills along with the medical expenses and funeral costs. For this reason, I am asking for any donations, big or small, prayers or checks. Please take a moment out of your day and piece of your heart to dedicate it to this family who lost so much too soon.
