UPDATE 11/1/25 - We are in need of additional funds:
Dear friends and family,
The end of August marked one year since Kenny was so brutally taken from us. It was especially raw as we re-lived our last memories with Kenny and reflected on how unexpected and heartbreaking his loss was to us all.
Because of your generosity, we’ve been able to do so much this past year without the added burden of worrying about finances:
* Traveled to Mexico last September to arrange care for Kenny and bring him home.
* Recovered some of his possessions from his apartment last September.
* Hired a Mexican lawyer and translator to assist us with working with authorities there.
* Rescued Luna and covered her unexpected hospitalization expenses.
* Covered Celebration of Life expenses.
* Covered Karen and Renai’s court-ordered trip to Mexico City in March to claim and release the rest of Kenny's belongings
* Paid an initial retainer for a probate attorney to help Lauren secure necessary court orders.
We are deeply grateful. None of this could have been accomplished without the generous support from you all.
We had hoped that the original amount would cover everything, but the legal process has proven more complicated and costly than expected. Lauren has been working with a probate lawyer to gain access to Kenny’s accounts (Apple & Google - for his important documents and to recover his art and family photos), and Facebook (to remove his murderer from his profile), and the costs have exceeded the initial retainer which used up the last of our GoFundMe balance. It has been a harsh reminder for us all to have more than one legacy contact set up for your accounts so your loved ones never have to deal with these legalities.
Additionally, in order to fully close Kenny's administrative life in Mexico, Lauren will need to pay for services with a Mexican notary to be granted authority over matters there.
To finish this work, we estimate we need an additional $5,000.
It is humbling to ask again, but we truly need your help to complete this process for Kenny. If you are able, please consider contributing — any amount helps. We remain forever grateful for the love and support this community has shown.
We would also like to share his online memorial page where you can share your memories with him: https://www.mykeeper.com/KennyLandes/
With love and gratitude,
Karen, Lauren, and Renai
**********************************************************
Our family is completely devastated by the very sudden and tragic loss of Kenny. We are all in shock and trying hard to make sure Kenny is cared for with the respect and dignity he so well deserves. We are creating this page to ask for monetary help for our family as we are not financially prepared to deal with what lies ahead.
As most of you know, Kenny was living in Mexico City when he was brutally murdered by his husband last Sunday, along with 2 of his 3 dogs. Due to a pending homicide investigation, it has created an international, logistical nightmare that Karen and Renai are currently in Mexico dealing with. There is a tremendous amount of financial obligations to be dealt with as far as hiring interpreters, a funeral home, lawyer, bringing Kenny’s surviving dog back home as well as his belongings…. The list keeps getting longer everyday.
We believe Kenny’s wishes are to be cremated. However, due to the nature of his death, the Mexican police will not allow cremation to happen in Mexico. It is our understanding that he will need to be repatriated and the cremation done in the US. This will be the biggest expense of them all. The process of figuring this all out will take some time. Once the logistics have been handled, we will start to work on Kenny’s memorial service so we can all come together to celebrate the beautiful person he was.
Kenny was an amazing person who made such a huge impact on so many people’s lives. His fun-loving, compassionate, and quick-witted personality was truly one of a kind and he will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Kenny is survived by his daughter, Lauren, his parents, Pat and Jean, his two younger sisters, Karen and Renai, and has finally been reunited with his deceased brother, Ronnie. Kenny has a large extended family and many friends who were so special to him and that he loved so dearly.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your donations. Everything has been so overwhelming and it’s hard to get back to everyone individually, but please know your donations are greatly appreciated. We understand if you are unable to financially contribute, and we appreciate your love and support.
Lastly, this is the official page for donating money to our family to ensure all funds remain organized and can be used effectively. Please share.
