Help Katie Recover From PTSD

On May 30th, 2022, Katie’s beloved wife and our sweet friend, Kendall Shea Chase was tragically killed by a drunk driver in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Along with Kendall, one of Katie’s best friends and future in-law, Emily Shagley, was also killed in the accident.

Katie, Kendall, Kendall's father Andy, and his partner Emily were in Cabo to celebrate Andy and Emily's engagement. While the group was on their way to dinner, a drunk driver on the other side of the freeway lost control of their vehicle and flew into opposing traffic. She barreled into Katie and her loved ones’ car, flipping it multiple times. Both Kendall and Emily were ejected from the vehicle and died instantly.

Katie and Kendall's father survived, but not without bearing witness to the horrors of the crash.

It is painful to report that Katie is crippled by the trauma she endured on that terrible day. She survived a fatal accident, and saw things no one should, including the bodies of the people she loved most in this world. She has been diagnosed with severe PTSD, acute anxiety, and is deeply depressed. Flashbacks of the crash haunt her.

Katie needs twice-weekly intensive trauma therapy in order to function on any type of normal level. She has been seeing a trauma specialist who costs her $500 a week, which comes out to $2,000 a month. Our fundraising goal is for 10 more months of trauma therapy for our Katie as she is unable to work while trying to survive each day.

At the time of the accident, Katie and Kendall were newlyweds, just shy of their 8-month anniversary. They had shared their lives together as loving and inseparable partners for 12 years. They were and still are true soulmates, with the most intense and special love any of us were fortunate enough to witness. Emily Shagley was a best friend, sister, and mother figure to Katie. There are no words to encapsulate the totality of Katie's grief.

In a way, this fundraiser for Katie is for Kendall as well. We know that if Kendall could have made a final wish, it would have been to take care of her love. Katie is suffering and isn't able to do much right now, which includes asking for help.

This is why we are here. We've had so many wonderful people reach out to us asking how to help, and we think this is the best course of action. Anything helps in getting her the support she needs. We love you so much Katie.
