Assistance for Kassandra’s Healing & Medical Bills

Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Carmelita, I’m fundraising for my niece Kassandra. She has suffered a tragic accident that has changed her life forever as the young age of 24.

On November 13th, Kassandra was hit by a car while crossing the street after getting off of work in her college town. The driver was going 45 mph in a 20mph zone, he was distracted and saw her when it a was too late. She was hit and thrown on the concrete where she had a great amount of head trauma. She suffered many fractures in her body including her skull, some facial bones, left femur and several fractures in her pelvis. She had bleeding in her brain for the first week and was unconscious. She had to be airlifted to a trauma 1 hospital one hour away the accident scene where she can be treated, she was shortly put on the ventilator after being resuscitated. She went through orthopedic surgery for her femur and pelvis two days later. During nearly two weeks, no one knew, not even doctors what things would be like once she was off sedation or how long she would need the ventilator. With many prayers from family, friends and never losing faith, slowly things started to turn for her. She was starting to feel the pinches on her leg (pain induced tests) to determine if her brain was sending the correct signals to her body. Days later she would move fingers, toes. She would open her eyes half way but not for long. Many neuro tests were completed on a daily basis.

Kassandra woke up on Thanksgiving day and we couldn’t be more grateful. Since then she had a tracheostomy so she can have the ventilator tube removed from her mouth and be more comfortable. Many breathing tests were completed and days passed before the ventilator was removed. She has been able to sit and watch and listen to positive messages from family and friends through FaceTime. We think she can comprehend what we are saying. Kassandra smiled for the first time one day ago, on 12/5/23. She was transitioned from the trauma 1 hospital to the Rehabilitation center on 12/5/23 as well. There she will receive physical therapy, speech therapy and motor skills therapy and other services she will need.

Kassandra is 24 years old, was only 3 weeks away from receiving her Masters, she would be first generation master’s graduate in our entire history of family tree. She is a Shelter Advocate where she focuses on ending domestic violence through provisions of housing, outreach, prevention and education. She has a huge and servant heart for others and those with the most need.

To conclude, we are thankful she is progressing every day and couldn’t be more grateful for everyone reaching out and asking about her. , We are now facing the financial situations that medical insurance or even driver’s car insurance will not cover. She has thousands in medical bills for services already received and will need to continue to receive to get well. Unfortunately, she will not be able to hold a job right away.
We also ask that you keep Kasandra in your prayers, on behalf of our entire family, THANK YOU. God Bless You.
