Help for Joyce Large and Her Family

Hello Friends and Family, 

My name is Ciara and I have been friends with Joyce since 6th grade, which makes for a whopping 22+ years. We are both from Mira Mesa, located in beautiful San Diego. She is a woman whom I admire deeply and am lucky to have as a friend. 

On September 13th, Joyce and her family (husband Jeremy, daughter Ariana, and son Kimo) all started to experience Covid-19 symptoms. As you may know, Joyce was pregnant at the time and had already been battling possibly preeclampsia and an imminent early delivery. Unfortunately, Joyce was admitted to Southern Hills Hospital and was tested positive for Covid-19. Due to her underlying asthma, the illness severely affected her ability to breathe resulting in being connected to oxygen. However, due to the unexpected effects of Covid-19 and her declining health, she was required to deliver early via an emergency c-section. She was made aware ahead of surgery that if she did not do well due to her condition that she could possibly be intubated. Thankfully, she made it through and her daughter Lily was then born on September 25th at 5 lbs, 15 oz, and 18 in. Lily was sent to NICU for monitoring as Joyce was not allowed to bond with her due to Covid-19.

Joyce has been recovering slowly but surely in ICU, but has now been diagnosed with pneumonia. In addition to the painful recovery of a c-section, she has been having to work through being able to breathe and cough without struggle to her body. Throughout the course of her stay, Joyce has been receiving an array of blood transfusions, dieurtics to help her kidneys, plasma treatments, and IV drips to keep her comfortable. We have been receiving hospital updates daily from her cousin on courses that the medical team takes to ensure Joyce becomes healthy again.

Despite the long recovery ahead of her, Jeremy and the kids have been recovering from Covid-19 at home without her. Furthermore, on September 28th, Lily was released from NICU to be with her Father and siblings. Naturally, it has been a lot for them to manage without Joyce. Another friend, Stephanie Phung, has been able to stay with the family for a few days to assist and then will be relieved for a few days by Joyce's Aunt. Outside of this, Jeremy and the children just have each other. If you know Joyce, she is the rock of her family and the most loving Mother. Joyce is also nothing but a loyal and dedicated friend who treats her friends as her own family. 

We are hoping to raise funds to help cover living expenses (groceries, food, and rent) for her husband and children while Joyce remains in the hospital for the unforeseeable future. In addition, this sudden onset of medical expenses has posed a troubling concern as we are not sure what the total cost of her stay and treatments will be. We humbly ask for your assistance and consideration in helping Joyce as she overcomes this hurdle. Joyce is a devoted woman of God and has risen to several challenges thrown to her in her lifetime. We know she is capable, resilient, and will prevail, but helping her to know that she will not have to worry about even a small portion of monetary expenses would be a blessing.
