I, Joel Wilensky, am in need of community assistance to sustain day-to-day living. I am in significant debt and have no money left to pay monthly bills. I'm working on a plan in terms of what comes next for me, but it is not an exaggeration to say I have NO MONEY. The last few years presented many unforeseen and life-altering challenges, which put me under immense emotional and financial strain.

My wife of 55 years, Sandra, who was the rock of the family, passed in 2022 after a sudden 4-month battle with aggressive leukemia. Nothing has been the same since.

The majority of my carefully planned retirement was drained several years ago due to legal fees on a lengthy and unanticipated probate matter. It's what I had to do to stabilize the family, but unfortunately, I never recovered financially.

I was forced to close my business after COVID severely impacted hiring in the retail sector. This was a huge blow to my income and savings, as I had worked hard every day for over 40 years at my recruiting business – placing more than 1,000 candidates in the retail industry.

Health challenges have increased in the past three years: Parkinson's Disease has affected my memory, neuroendocrine cancer required surgery and rehab, and multiple illnesses required hospitalization due to my compromised health status.

It feels like the walls are closing in from all sides at times. I have exhausted all of my own resources, debt is piling up, and I need help to get through the next months.

I’m underwater at this time and have been for some time. Any amount you contribute will go directly towards my current expenses to bridge the gap while my family and I figure out what is next. I know times are tough across the board, and family comes first. That "family first" approach is precisely how I ended up in this situation, but prior to this financial crisis, my wife and I gave generously to those in need when we had the means. My hope is there are people out there willing to lend a hand, in any amount, if they have the means. I would truly appreciate it.
