Jeff is very special to me and my son; he and Pam our are family.
With great sadness, as many of you may have read from Pam's post today, Jeff peacefully passed to eternal life earlier today, December 29th.
Please keep Pam, and the rest of Jeff's family, in your thoughts and prayers, as his loss on this earth is deeply felt amongst us all.
His Story:
Jeff Fowles teaches high school history on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, and lives (on the weekends and summer vacation) in Blanding Utah with his dear wife Pam.
In the summer of 2022, Jeff was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. After surgery and some months of chemotherapy, Jeff was declared cancer- free late fall 2022.
On November 8th, 2023, after a biopsy and PET, Jeff learned that his colon cancer had metastasized into both of his lungs.
Treatment is commencing immediately. Jeff will have a short surgery on Wednesday the 15th to install an infusion port and begins a new and aggressive chemotherapy regimen, inclusive of a 4-hour treatment session that same morning. The doctor has indicated the regimen will likely consist of chemo through a pump at home every other week, and chemo at the medical center in Monticello the alternate week. The initial treatment plan will be over the course of two months. The full treatment plan and timing has not yet been determined, while they await further testing to determine the exact genetic makeup of the cancer, for a more targeted treatment.
Jeff and Pam subsist on Jeff’s true-to-Arizona meager teacher’s salary, and what Pam makes as a teachers aide in the local school in Blanding. Jeff exhausted much of his disability in 2022, and there has been no determination yet of what he is eligible for now, although it will not be 100% of his regular salary. With the harshness of this new round of treatments and surgeries, it will be necessary for Pam to take days off, likely unpaid, to get Jeff to various appointments, but especially the chemo in Monticello.
The thought behind this gofundme is to ensure mortgage, vehicle loan, insurance and utility payments do not lapse. Also, there will potentially be transportation expenses if Pam is unable to take each day off. I am hoping that the financial support will ease this deep concern for Jeff so that he can focus on getting well /kicking cancer’s butt.
Jeff says that it feels both awkward and humiliating to write this appeal, but finds them to be in a financial hole due to a return of cancer. He does not want anyone to feel obligated to donate, and stresses that one should only do so if they can. He and Pam are very grateful for your interest in his welfare, and his dear Pammy will continue to post updates when able, as will he.
