I am writing on behalf of my wife. Robita (Bobbie) Thorne, who recently suffered a serious break of the bone in her left arm and needs help to pay hospital expenses for the surgery to be done in Aruba.

Please help. No amount is too small to assist in paying the huge hospital bill.

A few years ago, we hit an all-time low when as passengers in a taxi, we were in an accident due to negligence on the part of the driver. I was seriously injured. The injuries are permanent and such that I could no longer work. For years we struggled with insurance companies and total loss of income.

As I was undergoing treatment, Bobbie was diagnosed with advanced Stage 4 breast .cancer.

Bobbie was asked toa participate in a cancer research trial at Princess Margaret Cancer Hospital in Toronto, Canada, which weakened her bones and immune system.

We exhausted our savings and were forced to close our company and sell our house to live and meet daily expenses.

In November 2019, we undertook what was to be a 5 month trip to Aruba. We had taken out travel/medical insurance coverage for the period. Then things spiraled downwards in March 2020, when our return flights on Westjet were rescheduled multiple times until the airline canceled altogether and suspended flights. Also, Aruba closed the airport to all flights except for freight and MediVac.

Our insurance coverage was in effect during the period the airline delayed us. We would have been OK and covered until our return; however, with the cancelation, our coverage lapsed. We attempted to get coverage again, only to be told by several insurers that they would not underwrite the policy because we were outside of Canada. At that time, with Covid running rampant, the insurance companies were overly cautious and challenging to deal with. We had no coverage.

During this time, Bobbie’s doctor issued a letter informing her not to travel during the covid period as her immune system was fragile due to the cancer treatments. If she contracted covid, the chance of it being fatal was probable.

Bobbie has side effects from the treatment, including neuropathy in her feet, a weakening of the bones, and other issues.

Last week, she experienced a fall and broke the bone in her left arm. The break is severe and dislocated. It will not heal without expensive surgery to pin the bone and insert a plate.

As our insurance coverage expired, we face hospital expenses and ongoing medical costs that we cannot meet.

Through this gofundme request, we ask for assistance to pay the expenses. The hospital quoted these at $16,000US or $23,000 Canadian.

Because our primary residence is in Canada, The gofundme request must be in Canadian currency, But contributions made in US Dollars can be accepted and converted.

We will be grateful for any assistance to help us through this horrible period.
