Hello all, I am not one to usually ask for any assistance. As of 11-14-2025, my family and I lost the matriarch, the rock, and the backbone of our family after a quick fight in the hospital.

On October 25, 2025, Sandra Whitmire (Sandy) had a small fall going upstairs in our home due to losing her balance. When I arrived home, I found her on the floor of the hallway. I asked her why, and she said, "It seemed like a good idea at the time." Well, that is my mom. She refused to go get checked out. On that following Monday (10-27), it was noticed she was turning yellow in color. She was taken into urgent care because she couldn't get into her primary care provider. Urgent care sent her straight to the ER. They ran tests to find out her pancreas, liver, kidneys, and gallbladder were all angry, as they stated. After some more tests were completed, they found a tumorous mass in her pancreas, which they said was the reason why the other organs were mad, and they needed to admit her. They took her into surgery the next morning to do a biopsy and add a stent. When she came out of the surgery, she had issues coming out of the anesthesia, so they sent her to ICU.

They started treatment for the kidney failure with dialysis. She did fine on the first day other than blood pressure and breathing issues, so they kept her in the ICU. After the second dialysis, she had even more issues, to which she ended up coding. After CPR and all attempts, they thought she was gone. Nope, not Sandy; she fought and came back. They ended up having to intubate her, and she was intubated for 7 days. They also started continuous dialysis because it is easier, and when they checked her heart out, I was told she was only using 30%. After days of this, she got the tube taken out, but the doctors were still worried about the now cancer and the complete kidney failure.

Mom finally got tired of all the poking and prodding. We also had some issues with some night staff. She told them she was a DNR, DNI. That was the hardest thing I thought I would ever hear. When things started to get better, then she would get worse... what a rollercoaster ride it was. On Friday, 11-13, she decided she wanted to not go with treatment. She was worn out and tired, not feeling like it would get better, and the cancer treatments and dialysis 3 times a week she would have to do. She requested Hospice.

Once Hospice care came and talked to us, we had a place all lined up because she wanted to see family and her dog (Zeevia) and cat (Gibs). Hospice was placed in to bring equipment on Saturday. They moved her to a regular room. When I had to leave for a shift change, she said goodbye to me and her grandson Dakota and said she loved us. We never thought it was "Goodbye" when I returned after picking up her granddaughter from her work to come see her. As we were standing at the security checkpoint getting our badges, they called me saying she was not verbally responding to them. As we walked into her room, the LPN was verifying that she had passed just before we walked in.

Needless to say, she never got to see Zeevia or Gibs or many of the family that didn't have time to get there before her passing.

I talked and got the funeral home info and went in. Mom stated she wanted to be cremated, so as to her wishes, this is what we will do. Mom didn't have anything in place for end of life, no life insurance, 401k, or anything for this. So as I said at the start, I am not one to ask for help, but at this point in time, things are rough for many different reasons. My family and I could and would appreciate any and all help with this.

I am her only child. She has three grandkids, Brianna, Dakota, and Chyanne. She also has one living brother to our knowledge, Brian.

We thank you for taking the time to read this and help where available.
