Hello! My name is Ashley, the youngest Daughter of Dennis Sparks.
About a year ago, we found out my dad had developed throat cancer. We consulted a doctor who believed that through radiation, they could completely cure it with a 100% success rate! My dad and the whole family were hopeful.
However, shortly after the completion of the radiation, my dad had returned to his life on the road, and had to be emergently transported to Flagstaff Arizona Hospital as he had been bleeding from the throat uncontrollably (He had coughed so hard that the inner Carotid Artery in the back of his tongue had ruptured). They performed an emergency surgical procedure and after further evaluation spotted another cluster of cancer that had been hiding behind the one we had handled. This one was unfortunately one that couldn’t be fought the same way, and we were advised that attempting a high dose Chemo would be our next course.
He has lost the ability to swallow and had to have a feeding tube inserted for all of his nutritional needs. He was given the option of complete removal of the affected area (removing the full tongue and voicebox, and also rebuilding a part his lower jaw) in December but we’re now too late to have that done, it’s no longer deemed a safe procedure as the cancer has progressed and is now surrounding the outer carotid artery.
After multiple trips to the hospital for repeated aspirated pneumonia from everything collecting in his throat and lungs, and bi-weekly chemotherapy sessions we are sad to say we are bravely preparing for the end; this cancer is not reacting to the chemotherapy the way we hoped. The way the doctor described it as we've kept it at bay from progressing, but eventually the effects will no longer happen and it will aggressively take over.
My Father Dennis, is such a loving man, who was full of nothing but life and consistent jokes. He loves animals and building things with his own two hands, and would do anything for his family. He has spent his last 3 years driving a semi for the band Chicago, and he loved every moment that experience took him to.
We are currently seeking assistance with paying his outstanding medical bills, as well as future funeral proceedings.
Anything you are willing to donate would be greatly appreciated in this horrible time for our family.
