Assist the Zhang Family in Finding Stability
Donation protected
Hi all,
My name is Jasmine and I am an educator and neighbor to students and families who have been displaced from the 877 Bunker Hill fire on September 13, 2024 in Los Angeles. The elder sibling, Tony, graduated from the school I work at, and I currently work with the younger sibling, Simon, as an Advisor to a new club he initiated on campus. With the consent of the family, I am starting this GoFundMe to help support the Zhang family get back on their feet. They were fortunate that their apartment was on the second floor and did not get burned, however it did get flooded. The Zhang family is currently staying with friends in the neighborhood and unable to retrieve ANYTHING from the apartment. The building is currently red tagged. They hope to eventually get into the building to salvage some of their household materials.
The Zhang family consists of two hard working immigrant parents and their two sons, Tony and Simon. Tony is about to start UC San Diego and Simon just started his 3rd year of high school. Funds will be used to help them stay afloat while they get updates from building management and the Red Cross and potentially help secure more permanent housing. I've been checking in with the Zhang family about their needs and have provided updates about everyone's help (THANK YOU!!!). Money will be withdrawn in chunks and directly given to the Zhang parents to support their kids and paying for their needs.
9/14 8pm:
The family has been put up at a local motel for now! They are awaiting updates from local officials, non-profit organizations, and building management about next steps. Government officials have noted that they are looking for another section 8 building to house tenants. Police shared that there will be a time when tenants can go in, and if any of their items have been looted, that they can file a police report for their items.
9/13 5pm:
Red Cross has provided cots at the park
9/13, 4pm:
Currently, the Red Cross is attempting to facilitate some type of shelter situation at our local park. There are no cots or support with showers/ hygiene. Tenants received some food.
