Hi to everybody reading this, my name is Anna Whittenburg and I am making this account for my Papa, Jon Coddington, whom passed away August 12th surrounded by his army of love.

long story short, Monday August 4th my Nana (Darlene Coddington) had undergone brain surgery. More so, my Papa, Jon Coddington, had undergone open heart surgery Friday August 8th.

Friday night my mom called my phone to let me know that he endured major complications leaving him in the SICU with his chest open (covered with a bandage) for five days straight. They were almost eight hours into his procedure on Friday when they found that there was a hole in his heart causing a halt in finishing (alongside the other issues trying to be successfully addressed) and that one of his heart walls consisted of mostly muscle and little strength.. so they leave him to rest for a couple days.

Monday August 11th he went back in for surgery and without hearing anything all day the surgeon found us in the waiting room and told us they were able to successfully fix the hole in his heart. He then needed to remain stable and just rest.. he needed to lose fluids due to inflammation in order to be closed back up.

Fast forward to Tuesday he remained stable through the morning and afternoon. Around 6:30 pm my mom then calls me to tell me that they had to place a balloon in his chest to support his heart. Unfortunately, his heart wasn’t working the way it should have and he continued to decline. His loved ones gathered in the house together to pray and hope for the best. Tuesday night we received the phone call and rushed up to the hospital to hold him while he crossed the bridge.

I wanted to make this page for not only my family, but most importantly for my Papa. Expenses with bills (medical and common house bills), food for loved ones, flowers.. anything as little as a prayer would be appreciated. I took this under my own belt to support our family. If you’ve read this far you have no clue how much myself and my family appreciate it. He will be dearly missed and was so loved.

with love,
Anna one of his granddaughters.

8/15/25;
Thank you TREMENDOUSLY to those who have donated and send their condolences. This means the world to my entire family and we are so blessed.
