Moving Forward After Federal Probationary Termination
Donation protected
My name is Sydney Hansen. I was an employee for the National Park Service for about 8.5 months, meaning I was still on probation. With the new administration's policies, all probationary employees were fired.
I moved across the country after getting my masters degree in geological sciences for a Physical Science Technician position at Jewel Cave National Monument. I worked hard and completed many projects. I worked on things ranging from geologic mapping to cave mapping to ferret surveys to invasive plant management. My work did not go unnoticed and I received all "exceeds expectations" on my latest employee evaluation. The reasoning stated in my termination letter was that I did not demonstrate the needed "fitness or qualifications" for my position. This is most certainly not the case for me and I am incredibly upset to have been fired after working so hard.
Seeing as I moved across the country and purchased a home for this job, I have many bills to pay and little income. Any help is greatly appreciated while I attempt to find work that matches my skillset or wait for the hiring freeze to be lifted.
