Hello. My name is Shadecia Rene McMillian. I am a senior Criminal Justice student and I use to minor in Mass Media Productions at North Carolina A&T State University. I am currently asking for help in a situation regarding my school, my ex minor, and a debt that was brought upon me.

I am a fifth year student because I declared my minor during my junior year and wanted to finish my major during my fourth year. For my second semester of my 5th year, I registered for all my classes on time and was set to move on. Unfortunately, I didn't meet the prereqisite for a class and had to retake it. This meant I had to readjust my schedule. The class I needed was causing time conflict for an already registered class but fortunately I could move it to another day and fill in my needed class. The problem is, I needed an override for it due to me being a criminal justice student registering for a media class. No problem. I could just ask the department administrator to fix it for me.

In January, I went to the office on the first day of class and was denied help and told to come the next day because the computers were not working. I could not go the next few days because the campus was evacuated due to the heat and water heating systems being down. I emailed the admin on Saturday in hopes I would get a response to no prevail. I went to the office again on Monday which happens to be the last day to add or drop classes so I needed to get the override that day. I ask and they said that they would just enroll me in the class so I won't have anything to worry about. Great. I'll get the class and everything will be fine. Wrong.

I checked my schedule later in the day and saw that the class was not there. I went to the office the next day and asked if they forgot to enroll me and they admitted they did and was distracted by other students. They tried to call the school registrar and they would not put me in the class due to the end of the add/ drop period. I contacted the dean of students and they said that they feel sorry for the mistake but I can't get the class or any class. I, along with my student advisor and help from my department chairperson, went to the student affairs about the problem. Same deal, they were sorry about the situation but there is nothing that can be done. I was also blamed for not having a filler class that I didn't need and just withdrawing several months after. Without this class, I would be a part-time student which wouldn't be bad but my FAFSA is set for me to be a full-time student.

Due to this mistake, I was marked as a part-time student and my pell grant was revoked. This means I owe North Carolina A&T over $7000. And I have no choice but to pay it due to an administrators mistake. This situation cause me to drop my minor which was upsetting because I really enjoyed learning and working with media. I am a student with a part-time job that does not make enough to pay off this debt easily and I do not have this kind of money sitting around. I am asking for help because without this debt paid off I will not receive my degree I spent 5 years working on. I will appreciate anything given. Please help me get my degree and pay off my university.

Thank you.
