Hey all! I go by Ruby Fae. I am a freelance 3D modeler/animator. I have been through a lot in my life, and through one phase of it, I never would have made it without my psychiatric service dog, Lola.

She has been retired for quite some time now, and this year as she turned 15, she was diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma—essentially a cancer that is fully attached to the muscle in her leg. It is too large, and she is too old for surgery to be viable. Plus, another smaller tumor has appeared on her other leg, which could be a sign the cancer has already spread.

Because she is still in good spirits and the only other symptom she is having is weight loss (she lost two pounds in the last two weeks), we have decided to plan a good-bye party for her next weekend before giving her the last kindness. I have not made this decision lightly. Lola was my service dog for many years—we have a special connection I would never be able to convey to someone who hasn't had that kind of partnership. It isn't fair to keep her here longer only for her to deteriorate.

I am lucky I have had this long with her. 15 is an insane age for a dog her size. I am extra lucky I will have time to say good-bye. But this isn't going to be easy for me, financially or emotionally. I am looking to get all the help I can covering her medical bills and all her needs for these final two weeks.
