Tyrone Hairston, Rita's husband of 28 years, passed away August 18. Rita was dedicated to Tyrone's illness after he suffered a major stroke in March of 2024. She visited him nearly everyday at the MontCare Rehabilitation Center, caring for him and working with every agency and doctor in his sudden retirement, and incapacitation.

In July of this year, Tyrone spent more than one month in the ICU of Holy Cross hospital suffering from pneumonia, heart failure, and many other ailments.
