Opal, our sweet 4-year-old Maltipoo, was more than just a pet; she was family. Our family consisted of Sarah, Long, and her best friend, Onyx. Opal and Onyx grew up together and were inseparable—we lovingly called them our "gems."

Opal lived a life rich with love and adventure. She journeyed with us from the sunny beaches of California to the quaint towns of Connecticut, and finally to the bustling streets of New York. Through every move, her joyful spirit remained our constant, serving as Sarah’s Emotional Support Animal (ESA) during all of life’s ups and downs. She was a truly special being and can never be replaced. She will always be our girl.

At just four years old, Opal was diagnosed with Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA), a sudden and aggressive illness. We did everything we could: round-the-clock hospital stays, multiple blood transfusions, and various immunosuppressant treatments. But her condition worsened, leading to complications like pancreatitis and gallbladder infections. Her platelet levels dropped so low that surgery wasn't an option; the risk of bleeding was too high.

Watching Opal's health decline was heartbreaking. She developed jaundice, causing her eyes and skin to turn yellow, and she lost control over her bladder. Despite being on constant pain medication, it was clear she was suffering. After consulting with her doctors, we made the painful decision to let her go peacefully, sparing her any more pain.

The medical bills have accumulated to approximately $11,000. It's a significant and sudden financial strain, and we're reaching out for help to cover these unexpected expenses. Any support, no matter the amount, would mean the world to us and help us remember Opal without added stress.
