Help Aretha (Obi’s Mom) with Obi’s funeral Expenses
Donation protected
It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of our beloved son, nephew, and cousin, Obi Emmanuel, who bravely fought a courageous battle with cancer. Obi was an only child. He lost his dad as an infant, when he was about eight months old, and was raised by his then very young mother, Aretha.
In 2017, Obi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, beginning a journey that spanned years in and out of different hospitals with varying degrees of treatments, Surgeries and procedures at Johns Hopkins.
However, the cancer became more aggressive and spread to other parts of his body. Obi had many other surgeries, one of which was a spinal operation in October 2022 resulting from spinal compression due to the tumor or cancerous mass. After the surgery, Obi regained physical functioning and use of his extremities and was able to return to work.
In the early months of 2024, Obi experienced a relapse. He was admitted back to the ICU right after Thanksgiving in 2024. His faith remained strong that he would pull through. He celebrated his 30th birthday on March 4, 2025, which sadly became his last, as he passed away on March 18, 2025, while still in the ICU.
Obi attended Wootton High School Rockville MD and was part of the basketball team. He went to Montgomery College, Maryland, U.S. and soon after ventured into IT. This soon earned him a position in cybersecurity with a firm in Washington, D.C. During his college years, he worked at PNC Bank as a branch manager.
Obi's passing comes as a devastating shock to everyone who knew and loved him, especially his mum. Obi's mum, Aretha, was never far from him. She was there for all his hospital appointments, procedures, and admissions. As the years progressed, she could barely hold onto her job or stay on top of her bills and Obi's various bills and treatments. Obi's health challenges consumed her every day as a single mum, his primary support system and care giver.
Obinna was exceptionally well-raised. He was very caring, respectful, focused, and career driven; he fought so hard to stay alive.
At this time, Obi's mum is facing both emotional and financial challenges as a result of medical expenses, funeral costs, and the financial strain from Obi's illness.
Your support—whether through a donation or sharing this campaign—is deeply appreciated. Thank you!
Obi’s legacy will live on through the love and memories he leaves behind.
With gratitude,
