Lucas Eugene Upton passed unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 14th 2024 at the young age of 20 years old. At the age of twelve, he received a heart transplant and then he fought and won a battle with cancer last year. He spent many years fighting a very poorly dealt hand with his health very bravely. Unfortunately due to a failure of our healthcare system he was without financial assistance which made it virtually impossible to afford his medications for an extended period of time.
In December of 2023 Lucas starting sharing his life with my roommate Marina Lamkins who he met at work. Together with his family, friends, and doctors they were able to make it a possibility for him to take his meds every day again. Lucas and Marina traveled to and from doctors appointments together and with help from their friends, family and especially their work family scraped by financially to work on improving his health.
Recently with a lot of help and support Lucas was able to get his life moving back in the direction he wanted it to and was able to have so much more opportunity to work on his life goals. Within the last six months Lucas has gotten his drivers license, purchased a truck, adopted a cat, and was working so hard learning everything he could at Applebees so he could do more for his work family. He was loved, appreciated, and depended on by so many people and we are so thankful to have had him. We all appreciate the help and love we have been given thus far. We are asking for support for funeral and end of life costs to reduce the level of stress for his family while they grieve Lucas’s passing far too soon and anything is beyond helpful.
