I'm Dorinda Moore, daughter of Lillian, and as some of you know, my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's back in 2023. She no longer works and cannot drive anymore. It makes it harder because she is in complete denial about her condition.
Just recently, on September 19th, my niece, April Moore, was shot and killed here in Carlsbad in the parking lot of her apartment building due to a carjacking. The man, who was shot by police, later died at the hospital in Orange County.
I had two nieces, April and Marinda, who are my supporting angels in that they help with the care and needs of my mom. Now, without April, this responsibility falls on me and Marinda. Mindy works full-time with Scripps but is still a big help to me when things just get rough.
I have durable power of attorney for my mom's financials but since she has stopped working, I've struggled to keep her bills paid. Making only the minimum payments, we're not getting ahead.
Because of the nature of Alzhimer's and it's progression, I'm needing to get outside help and to do that, I need to pay off her debts so I can use her social security to pay for help when needed. I'm still applying for MediCal, but have been told, not to depend on it, with all the budget cuts coming along.
My Mom has worked all her life, and remains a relevant part of our family so me asking for help for her is something I thought I would never have to do.
