Assist Lillian in Overcoming Housing Crisis
Donation protected
Hello, everyone. My name is Harrison (some of you may know me as Ray) and I am helping our fellow community member Lillian raise funds for her housing situation. Here is a message from Lillian:
"I’m an indie fighting game developer struggling to find work because of a lifelong disability. I have CPTSD (complex PTSD) after surviving an abusive household for the first 28 years of my life. It’s left me struggling to care for myself and find work. Every therapist I’ve gone to has either victim-blamed me or retraumatized me; I’ve had to do self-therapy despite the risks. I’ve made a lot of progress over the last year and a half, but not being able to find work has made it difficult to survive.
My uninsured payments ran out at the end of 2024. Now I’m about to be homeless. My bank account is down to less than $300. My credit card is almost maxed out – and because my abuser is still technically on the card, I can’t risk filing for bankruptcy. I have an appointment with the county for cash aid, but that’s not until the end of March. I’m probably going to have to sell my car to make ends meet.
My expenses mostly come down to the basics: food, shelter, utilities, etc. I also have monthly medical loan payments from getting FFS surgery in 2023. (It was supposed to be covered by my insurance, but they refused to pay the first $10,000.) I need to pay off my credit card in the long run, but that will likely take years and years. Beyond that, I don’t typically spend much. (I will eventually need to buy new clothes – most of my old clothes have been around for over a decade, and they neither fit my body nor my gender.)
I desperately want to get to work on my game again. It’s been years since I got the chance to work on it, and I promised myself that I’d see it through to completion. I’ve even tabled early builds at local events in the past. I was happy to see that people seemed to like it, even if it was in a bare-bones state. If my work makes people smile when it’s barely more than a prototype, then I’m confident that I can make something great in the long run.
But I can’t do that without holding a job. And I can’t get work without a roof over my head. My disability limits how much effort I can put into job hunting before burning out, let alone what jobs I can feasibly take at all. I love game development, but there’s no way I’ll be able to find publisher funding in its current state, especially considering the state of the game industry at the moment. I’m currently learning Japanese as a fallback option, but right now, I need to know where my next meal is going to come from.
Any help is appreciated. Even $20 can me help cover groceries. I’ve set the $5,000 goal to help cover me until I find work, but please give what you can. I promise it means the world to me."
Thanks for considering helping Lillian. Anything helps and we appreciate your support!
