Kayla is a paramedic for Northampton County EMS. Last week, her dog ran into a pond and almost drowned; Kayla jumped in to save her dog. While in the pond, she severely lacerated the bottom of her foot. She was seen at a local hospital, where they stitched up the laceration and discharged her soon after. Within days, her pain increased, so she went back to the hospital to discover that she had a very bad infection brewing in her right foot and leg. She has been in the hospital for almost a week now, on continuous IV antibiotics. She has currently gone through one surgery to clear out infected tissue. During that surgery, it was discovered that her tendon was severed from the deep laceration to her foot. She will now require a second surgery tomorrow to repair the tendon damage and clean out any more infection left over.
Kayla is looking at an extended hospitalization as well as rehabilitation after her hospital care. She will miss quite a bit of time at work. Due to county policies, she is not yet eligible for FMLA; therefore, she will need to be taken off payroll during her time away and subsequently not have insurance coverage.
Kayla needs all the help she can get to continue supporting herself and her family during this downtime, as well as help with covering medical bills that will accrue. Any dollar would help. Please consider helping!
