Earlier this year Weymouth Fire Lieutenant John Higgins was diagnosed with Stage 4 occupational cancer, here’s a little bit about John and his accomplishments.

John has a wife Michelle and two children who look up to their father day in and day out. He began his career in 2006 with the Rockland fire department. Not long after, he joined the Weymouth fire department, where he has remained since. John has had various roles within the department. He was a Fire Instructor, Training coordinator and a company officer. He also held his paramedic license, and worked for Fallon ambulance for many years. Helping people in anyway was always something he loved. Even doing such off duty, when back in 2013 John and his good friend of Quincy Fire department received the Medal of Valor for rescuing a women out of a house fire in Hingham. John was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2016 where he took a step forward in leadership. Aside from being a first responder John was also a very talented carpenter. He held a degree from Wentworth in engineering, which allowed him to work on the Big Dig in Boston many years ago. He also had a high interest in skydiving. John had actually done so many “jumps” with an instructor, that he was actually allowed to go skydiving without an instructor. Needless to say he was a “jack of all trades”. Firefighter, paramedic, engineer. But most importantly a father and a husband. Please consider donating to this cause.
