Assist Jodi Gillis in her cancer battle
Donation protected
My name is Monica. I'm hoping to receive funds to assist in needed shelter and other essential expenses for my sister-in-law, Jodi Gillis, who was diagnosed with Stage 3-4 squamous cell oral cancer. In November 2024, she had the cancer tumor removed. The surgeon explained that it had spread to her lymph nodes. She urgently needs to start her cancer treatment, which will be a combination of chemotherapy and radiation.
We, her family, live out of state, and Jodi is currently at University Medical Center (UMC) in Las Vegas, Nevada. She will be discharged soon and has no place to stay. Her surgeon advised that it would be best she not leave the state of Nevada due to challenges it creates with her insurance and treatment. She has no source of income and is unable to work. She is pending her Social Security Disability income determination, which could take months before a determination is made.
We have explored extensively, community shelter facilities and find that they are not a fit for her as she would have to leave the shelter before 7:30 and return each day at 3 o'clock and wait in line in hopes of getting a bed/cot/mat for the night. We are told that during her chemotherapy, she will be very sick and weak, so these types of shelters would not be the best for her. I tried to get her into a medical respite shelter called RCC (Recuperative Care Center); however, they finally made a determination that due to her long-term illness, they could not accept her. She has no car.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated to assist Jodi during this difficult time.
