Please help bring Thomas home to his family in Jamaica

Hi, this is Matt and Jen, owners of Carver Hill Orchard in Stow, MA.

It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that our seasonal worker, Thomas, who has worked for us for the last 25 years, sadly passed away this morning . He was a devoted father and grandfather who despite being very ill, traveled here to Massachusetts last week to work our upcoming season. He was the sole provider for his family, and as you can imagine, this comes as a complete shock to them, especially with him being in another country.

We are responsible for the transportation of Thomas back to Jamaica (which we are told will start at $10,000), which in itself is a huge financial and legal cost for our small farm.

We are just asking for help getting Thomas back to his country and to allow his family to lay him to rest. Anything extra above the cost of transportation will go directly to Thomas’s family.

If you’ve enjoyed our vegetables, fruits, support the H2A program, or just love our farm, we appreciate any help you can offer. He was more than an employee; he was a member of our family. We will miss him more than we can say.
