Assist Haley: Overcome Medical & Car Struggles
Donation protected
Hello! I’m Haley, but you may know me as Caed. I know we see a lot of these and I deplore having to do this, but I'm a writer and a disabled mom of three, already dealing with significant medical debt, and my beloved minivan coughed out its last on the interstate on March 12th, stranding me and my son.
I’ve got two teenagers at home who aren’t yet driving (but are learning) and an autistic toddler still in a carseat that I care for. I also ferry two other children when their parents are working, so I need a vehicle big enough for car seats and multiple teenagers. My own disabilities mean we’re working on one income with lots and lots of medical appointments all over our state (and, unfortunately, associated debt). There are three families who depend on my ability to transport children, and who will also endure extra financial hardship from having to make other arrangements. That is in addition to my own need to get to multiple medical appointments every week. Between the medical debt and the cost of everything, we’re stretched past the breaking point and don’t have the means to replace the van.
Technically, the van is fixable, but fixing it would be prohibitively expensive. My van had 239k miles on it when it died, and it’s a vehicle that already had multiple issues. Repairing it would be a stopgap at best, and still leave us needing a new car within a year or two, tops. We’re hoping to get enough for a reliable used vehicle that will take us forward from here for a few years without spending thousands on stopgap repairs. Any amount you’d be willing to contribute would be amazing, and we’d be eternally grateful.
All my love,
Haley/Caed
