Assist Family With Medical and Home-Related Costs

My name is Liz Rivera, I am a part of the beautiful Rivera family, and we need some financial assistance to help out the kindest, most selfless, and loving son, brother, cousin, partner, and friend.

 

I grew up with my three cousins: Gerald, Lizzy, and Willy. We spent every moment together as we grew up in Miami, FL and Atlanta, GA. We would collect baseball cards, share our PS2 and GameCube games, ride our bikes and skateboards, play sports outside, and binge-watch all the early 2000s YouTube videos. We were inseparable as children, practically siblings rather than cousins, and continued to share that love through our adulthood.

 

Unfortunately, one of the cousins, Gerald, suffered from a stroke the night of Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 25, 2021. He was transported to Emory Hospital where he received emergency brain surgery to allow his cerebellum to heal and drain excess cerebrospinal fluid. Fortunately, the surgery went well and he is stable and recovering. However, the recovery process will be a journey for him and our family.

 

Gerald currently has no sensation or movement from the chest area down, and will require a wheelchair and other equipment to facilitate movement for the foreseeable future. Overall, he will need more services including MRIs, CT scans, home modifications, transportation, daily living equipment, therapy, physical therapy, and likely much more.

Hola! Soy parte de la hermosa familia Rivera y necesitamos ayuda financiera para ayudar al hijo, hermano, primo, y amigo más amable y amoroso. Crecí con mis tres primos: Gerald, Lizzy y Willy. Pasamos cada momento juntos mientras crecíamos en Miami, FL y Atlanta, GA. Éramos inseparables cuando éramos niños, prácticamente hermanos , y continuamos compartiendo ese amor a lo largo de nuestra edad adulta.

Desafortunadamente, Gerald sufrió un derrame cerebral la noche del Día de Acción de Gracias, el jueves 25 de noviembre de 2021. Fue trasladado al Emory Hospital donde tuvo una cirugía cerebral de emergencia para permitir que su cerebelo sane y drene el exceso de líquido cefalorraquídeo. Afortunadamente, la cirugía salió bien y está estable y recuperándose. Sin embargo, el proceso de recuperación será bien dificil para él y para nuestra familia.

Actualmente, Gerald no tiene sensación ni movimiento desde el área del pecho hacia abajo, y necesitará una silla de ruedas y otros equipos para facilitar el movimiento en el futuro. En general, necesitará más servicios que incluyen resonancias magnéticas, tomografías computarizadas, modificaciones en el hogar, transporte, equipo para la vida diaria, terapia, fisioterapia y probablemente mucho más.
