Hello, my name is David Shadel. I live in northwest Ohio, where my wife and I have been taking care of my 88 year old ill father, William "pops" Burns, who recently passed away on July 13th, 2025.

Both my wife and I had taken very good care of my father up until his passing. He moved in to live with us in mid-March 2025, and the time we have spent together since has been priceless and irreplaceable. We love my father eternally and did all that we could to make sure he had a healthier, happier life, surrounding him with family. He suffered from dementia, chronic kidney disease (CKD), prostate cancer, pneumonia, and an enlarged heart, which combined were ultimately the final factors of his passing. All diagnoses have been recent as well, not giving us much time to prepare for his death.

Although my father had Medicare, Medicare Part B, and limited Medicaid, they only cover a percentage of his life flight bill, specialists' and technicians' bills, hospice stay, and several other hospitalizations that took place leading up to his death. Currently, those costs combined together we expect to exceed $75,000 or more. There's no way that I can pay everything but I am focusing on his final funeral expenses.

We found out just this morning, July 16th, he only has $4,000 in life insurance, which isn't even close to what his funeral costs are. The government programs that could assist in covering these bills have been cut recently. Therefore, we have to seek other means to try to get help, Otherwise, we wouldn't be asking for help via GoFundMe.

We are reaching out to those who can afford to help, to donate what they can to help ease the financial burden.

We are asking for help with the remaining funeral expenses for my father.

Any funds remaining we will use to help with bills until I can get back to work and save enough to catch up with everything. any funds after that will be donated to the DAV or the American Legion.
