Hello to all,
Our mom was recently diagnosed in June 2022 with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. It is a rare and aggressive cancer; treatment is just as aggressive. The chances of getting this kind of Cancer is around 3%.
While meeting with her doctors to see what treatment fit best for her, she was approached to participate in a Study Trial specializing in TNBC. After discussing with her family & researching all her options, she agreed to give herself to the trial in hopes that it would someday help others. The day before the Trial Chemo infusions started, she had an ordered CT Scan, which showed a spot on her lungs. This disqualified her for the Trial & the original, more aggressive treatment had to begin.
As of Friday, Sept. 16th, she was unable to have her 4th treatment because her white cell blood count was extremely low (which unfortunately is part of the Chemo side effects.) This happening prolongs the treatment. With the size of the mass in her breast, we are still unsure how long she will receive chemotherapy or additional treatment. For now, the treatment plan is every week for 12 weeks, an additional eight every other week. This can change depending on how her Cancer/Body reacts to the Chemo. In addition to the Chemo, she is and will continue to have blood tests, MRIs, biopsies, & eventually surgery. She is being cared for out of KOP, UCSD. The various appointments for our mom; and her currently out on disability are taking a toll.
As you can imagine, this has been a stressful time with many tearful phone calls and sleepless nights. This is only the beginning.
My Brothers & I are reaching out to everyone that could help us on this journey. Our mom does have health insurance; however, bills are piling up even with insurance and having met her steep deductibles. Although she has a job with an H&W salary, it does not apply while she is out on disability, so she has to pay for her medical insurance plan. In addition, in 3.5 short months, her insurance plan will renew, and she will again have to pay another $12,500 in deductibles before insurance pays any additional amounts. Our dad is currently taking up more hours at work to help make things a little easier while also taking mom to all of her appointments.
Our Family has been humbled by the outpouring of love she has received so far, and I know we will be genuinely grateful if her village can come together to offer help in her time of need. She is one of the strongest women we know and plans to fight like hell to get through this.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your consideration of a donation. Any amount will be deeply appreciated. Even the smallest amount can help fill our Dad's gas tank as he must drive two hours to get our mom to every appointment.
On behalf of our mom and every other person/s that may have to endure this...
Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women, so please get regular checkups.
Our Sincerest gratitude
~ John, Marcus, & Jayden
