Hey y’all,
I’ve always worked hard to stay independent and figure things out on my own. But after multiple hospital stays, two rehab stays, a gap in insurance coverage I didn’t even know had happened, and losing my job, I’ve come up against a need I can’t meet alone.
My new wheelchair is here — but it’s not usable without key upgrades that cost $1,600 out of pocket. These adjustments weren’t covered after delivery, once it became clear how much heavier the new chair was compared to what I’d been using. And because insurance already paid for certain parts (like the wheels), they won’t cover new tires for my old chair either.
To make things more complicated, I found out months later that I’d had a gap in my insurance coverage back in November, right when many of these bills and denials started piling up. Between recovery, appointments, and growing medical expenses, I also lost my job. I’ve been applying for work every day across all the major job platforms, but right now, I need help navigating this difficult chapter.
